Introduction to Law (QSB 1414) (Semester 5)

The lecturer for this subject is Ms Anita Shoba Magimay. Total credit hours is 4. The assessment plan is divided into four components that are Test 1, Test 2, TGC Portfolio and Final Examination. Each component except TGC Portfolio sums up assessment weightage to 100%.

For Test 1, the test covered Malaysian Legal System and Contract Law. For Test 2, the test covered Tort Law.

At the end of final chapter, I am able to know act or omission that is against the law and relate to our role as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry. Also, the consequences of such act in terms of common law.


Facility Management (QSB 2443) (Semester 5)

The lecturer for this subject is Mr Andrew, which is a part-time lecturer. The assessment plan is divided into four components that are Final Assignment and TGC Portfolio. Each component except TGC Portfolio sums up assessment weightage to 100%.

For Final Assignment, I and two other students in one group have to pick a building in a given area. We have to take four angles of the building and describe in details about the management. Also, there are few questions about Green Building Index(GBI).

At the end of the semester, I am able to define Facility Management and the knowledge and practices in this field. Besides that, I am able to understand the impact of Facility Management towards national economic development.



Measurement 5 (QSB 3114) (Semester 5)

The lecturers for this subject are Mr Ramar and Mr Simon. Total credit hours is 4. The assessment plan is divided into four components that are Mid Term test, Assignment, TGC Portfolio and Final Examination. Each component except TGC Portfolio sums up assessment weightage to 100%.

For Mid Term test, the test is set by Mr Simon meanwhile assignment is set by Mr Ramar. This is because the chapters in this module are divided equally for the lecturers.

At the end of semester, I am able to interpret the clauses in the Standard Method of Measurement 2 (SMM2) for electrical installation, cold water installation, sanitary installation, fire protection and air condition installation, to be able to interpret the clauses in the Malaysian Civil Engineering (MyCESMM), to be able to take-off quantities from drawings of installations of electrical, cold water, sanitary, fire protection, air condition and also elements from the MyCESMM for the preparation of Bills of Quantities, to be able to understand the drawings so as to measure elements of the installation of electrical, cold water, sanitary, fire protection, air condition and also elements from the MyCESMM, to understand the relationship between Specifications, Drawings and Bills of Quantities in tender document for installation of electrical, cold water, sanitary, fire protection, air condition and also elements from the MyCESMM, and to be able to understand and have the knowledge on the steps in doing the Bills Quantities installation of electrical, cold water, sanitary, fire protection, air condition and also elements from the MyCESMM.

Financial Management (QSB 3413) (Semester 5)

The lecturers for this subject are Mr Chang Jau Ho and Mr Lee Wing Tey. Total credit hours is 4. The assessment plan is divided into four components that are Mid Term test, Assignment, TGC Portfolio and Final Examination. Each component except TGC Portfolio sums up assessment weightage to 100%.

For Mid Term Test, the question is based on Chapter 1 to 3 as the test is in Week 4. For Assignment, a group of student and myself have to pick one public-listed company and draft the overall information of the chosen company.

At the end of the semester, I am able to identify the appropriateness of financial management system for different construction projects and implement the accountancy principle and practice in examining the construction company's finances and accounts, define the appropriate cost control structure and technology in ensuing the quality, apply capital investment techniques in analysing the cost and benefit for particular construction projects, manipulate the sound knowledge of financial management in managing the financial aspect of the particular construction project, outline the business of construction project through proper strategic management theory and techniques, and organize the staff's task, organization and leadership to enhance motivation and performance towards career progression.  

Building Economics (QSB 3214) (Semester 5)

The lecturers for this subject are Sr Loo Seong King and Dianne Kok Hui Wei. Total credit hours is 4. The assessment plan is divided into four components that are Mid Term test, Assignment, TGC Portfolio and Final Examination. Each component except TGC Portfolio sums up assessment weightage to 100%.

For Mid Term test, the questions are based on Chapter 1 to 4 as the test is in Week 5. For Assignment, I and few members in one group have to apply what we have learned to the problems given.

At the end of the final chapter, I am able to identify the role and responsibilities of Quantity Surveyors in the overall development process and to match the relationship between cost and design to a value outcome, explain various methods of pre-tender estimating, outline the importance of cost studies to enhance the role of Quantity Surveyor in the development process, and produce an estimate at pre-tender stage, cost plan based on historical data and S-curve for financial planning to a proposed project.

Professional Practice 2 (QSB 3614) (Semester 5)


The lecturer for this subject is Sr Lim Sek Cheon. Total credit hours is 4. The assessment plan is divided into five components that are Seminar, Final Account Assessment, Mid Term test, TGC Portfolio and Final Examination. Each component except TGC Portfolio sums up assessment weightage to 100%.

For the Seminar, I have to give a presentation on a chapter given by the lecturer. For Final Account Assessment, I and another four members in a group have to assess contractor's final account application. For the Mid Term test, I have to apply what I have learned in 5 weeks time. 

The outcomes that I get from this subject are able to define the roles and responsibilities of the various parties involved in construction contracts in relation to particular clauses in the contract, able to explain the various construction contracts, and its limitation and constraints and define issues in interpreting the contract clauses of construction contracts. Besides that, I am able to define and analyze problems, and put theories into practice.
